I have been playing poker now for about 5 years, I’ve bet cards my entire life starting with games of Gin Rummy for pennies with my Grand Mother, to all of the various styles of Brag and general random games such as Go Fish, Crash and one so eloquently called, card on head game. I used to usually win, whatever casino game we were betting and although I liked to call it skill, it was quite hard to justify considering the randomness of the games we were wagering, so I was happy to accept I was having a protracted run of good fortune.
Then came Poker, or far more importantly Holdem Poker, made famous by a group of Texas card gamblers in the 60’s and since developed into one of the largest card phenomena ever seen. Poker is totally the new black, it really is uber cool with several of the world’s top stars racing to have their name connected with it. Just a quick scan via the TV channels these days and you can not escape from poker, and obviously there’s the fabled WSOP, the Holy Grail and Mecca all rolled into one for each single gambler.
So with all of this new discovered popularity, with so quite a few Television programmes devoted to poker, and magazine and book shelves filled up with quality material written by the foremost minds on poker, when are folks going to understand that this casino game is all about position!?
Perhaps I need to not get so worked up about this, after all the more men and women who wrestle with the subtle tactics and approaches necessary for succeeding consistently at Hold em, the far better it can be for everyone else, appropriate? I mean, if they can’t be troubled to read all of the available facts about why position is so critical, why need to we bother? We must just be happy there is an additional fish at the table!
It is true, we need to not encourage procrastination with guidance and support. Even so, I liken this to a friendly game of football. Granted the levels aren’t so great, except when you notice a gambler struggling, you guide them, offer them a number of advice, ultimately showing them a method to love, like and be thankful for the game as much as you. I’m askin all house players to do the same thing with their poker friends who haven’t quite got a handle on the nuances of wagering position. Guide them to grow their respect for the game. Needless to say, don’t attempt to try this one in your neighborhood gambling establishment, the sharks will not appreciate you teaching their lunch how to swim!
