Gus Hansen enjoyed a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only participant to make it to the final poker table in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may remember one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He raked in a large pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has earned many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the strongest players in the world. While gambling on online poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. He often plays in the 200/400 NL maximum buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus usually buys-in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very poorly. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then goes all-in. I believe Hansen is an outstanding poker player but not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is broke, he has little or no reason to settle at the table with the min buy in.
Buying in for the minimum takes most of the expertise out of big stack poker. Gus is accepted to be 1 of the best poker players in the world but he can’t buy in for the total dollar value. I believe television can alter our view of the real world at times. The greatest players in the world could be players you have never heard of. Gus can be seen playing internet poker on Full Tilt. He normally plays in high stakes omaha hi-low and texas holdem. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a competition player. Can he back up his abilities in cash games?
