Recently, I received a question from one of my students. It stated, "What precisely is pot odds and is Texas hold’em pot odds system worth pursuing?"
One point to keep in mind, any type of Texas holdem odds can and usually do have incredibly confusing. Even so, let me break pot odds down in incredibly basic terms. Please note that we are only discussing Pot Odds. Not outs, implied probabilities, simple probabilities or something else like that.
In short, pot odds are the probabilities you acquire when determining the ratio of the amount of money in the pot to the quantity of money it’ll charge you to call the bet.
For instance, let us say you are heads up with Player A. If there is $150 in the pot following the flop and Gambler A places a $20 bet it is going to expense you only 13 per cent of the pot to stay in the hand. If your likelihood of succeeding is greater than 13 % it is a no-brainer to call because you’d probably have good pot probabilities.
That is all there is to it really. Hold’em pot probabilities boils down to one thing. If your chance of succeeding is much better than the ratio of the pot size to the bet then you have great pot odds. If it’s lower than you have bad pot probabilities.
One much more thought about Hold’em pot odds. You are still betting the gambler far more so than something else. Play the gambler far more than your starting hands or the size of the chip stack and even, yes the pot probabilities.
If you can discover to read your opponents well you can utilize pot odds to aid justify or solidify your determination. But Texas holdem pot probabilities do not have to be an end all whenever you generate a poker conclusion.
Knowing and understanding how Hold em pot odds work is usually a useful and successful strategy. Except again don’t produce Hold em pot probabilities your only strategy.
