Seems like most folks are often talking about pre-flop system, so I would like to talk a little bit about how I bet on after the flop. Maybe I can help others, or maybe they’ve got advice to enhance my play.

I believe that 2 of the most critical plays following the flop are the semi-bluff and the defensive bet. That’s because these are the plays you generate if you havent hit a hand but you’ve got a very good drawing hand. Its easy to play a hand when you flop a monster. But I imagine that these two are the greatest techniques to bet on a drawing. Each one is wagered depending on you challenger(s) and your postion. So here’s how I play it, so tell me what you think.

Early Placement – Tight Competitors:

A semi-bluff works fairly well in this position. Appear out gambling and if a tight gambler didn’t hit a hand he’ll most likely lay down, and if he’s unsure you may possibly acquire a call. Except watch out, if that tight player comes back more than the top it may well be time to acquire away.

Early Placement – Loose Competitors

It is had been I like to do a defensive wager. Choose how many chips you are willing to risk on your draw and bet. This is normally a much smaller bet than normal. It’s been my understanding that the loose gambler will usually just call a wager rather than re-raise. However, when you check to them, theyre a lot more likely to throw in a lot more chips than your willing to pay.

Late Placement – Tight Opponents

This is the very best time to complete a semi-bluff, specially if most of the table checks. If that’s the case you’ll probaly pick up the pot now. If a player prior to has bet, you’ve to make a decision if he has a hand or not. If not, then reraise and he will probably go away since he was trying to steal the pot. Should you feel he does, nicely then it is time to determine your odds, and make a decision if the pot odds are worth the call.

Late Location – Loose Competitors

This one is a bit tricky, simply because it is harder to put a loose gambler on a hand. And if your in late placement against loose player, odds are they’ve already bet. That is were I usually determine to take a chance and are available back more than the best of them and pray they don’t call, and if they do, nicely then its time to wager. Odds are though even a loose player will go away if you come back strong enough.

Don’t forget although that these are moves I only generate soon after the flop comes and I have a respectable drawing hand (usually not a gutshot either). Possibly four to the flush or the open ended straight, for example.
