Do you ever obtain that itch? The itch to gamble, to head to the nearest gambling den, to uncover a superior stakes casino game of Hold em, to sit at a Blackjack table for hours on end. I really like that itch. And I love to scratch it.
I also love to watch individuals wager. No 2 poker faces seem similar. When I gamble I like to believe I put on a poker face which is impenetrable. But I know I have specific personal habits. For one, the only time I smoke cigarettes is when I bet on poker or Black-jack. And then I chain smoke. Except I chain smoke no matter if I am succeeding or losing, regardless of whether I’ve a beneficial hand or bad.
I once played inside a weekly poker game. The casino game was generally five card draw. There was a guy who wagered with us every single week who always wore a hat. When he was given a great hand, unconsciously, he would start touching and wagering with his hat. Pointless to say, he never won.
The very best poker gambler I ever saw was a man who made additional actions and gestures at a poker table than anyone I had ever met. He was impressive in the way he dressed. Usually an expensive suit and tie, boots shined and nails trimmed. He was fastidious in this manner. And he was usually brushing his pant leg or rubbings his hands or stacking his chips in neat little piles.
I use to examine him for long periods of time. I’d tried to see if I could spot his tell. Picking lint off his vest- did this imply he was bluffing? Stacking his chips in a short pile – did this imply he had a excellent hand?
Many years later I ran into him inside a bar in New York and we had a beer. I asked him if he have been aware of all those motions he created or if they have been subconscious. He informed me that every little thing he did at a poker table was deliberate. He said that everybody is constantly checking out everybody else’s poker face. They are attempting to spot the the tell.
So his program was to provide them lots to believe about. His thinking was if they were thinking about him picking a piece of fuzz off his vest and what it meant they sure weren’t pondering about their cards.
His process was diversion. And it worked for him. Never give up a process that works for you.
