Gus Hansen experienced a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only player to achieve closing table in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may remember one of the largest pots in high stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. Gus won a big pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has made many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the best enthusiasts anywhere in the world. While wagering on net poker, another side of Hansen has been seen. Gus regularly competes in the 200/400 No Limit max buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen more often than not buys-in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very weak. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then pushes all-in. I accept that Gus is an amazing poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is penniless, he has absolutely no reason to play at the table with the min buy in.

Buying in for the min takes almost all of the skill out of deep stack poker. Hansen is accepted to be one of the best poker players in the world but he can’t buy-in for the total dollar value. I believe television can skew our view of the real world at times. The greatest players in the world could be guys you have never heard of. Gus can be found wagering on web poker on Full Tilt. He generally plays in high stakes omaha hi-low and Holdem. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a competition player. Can he use his abilities in cash games?
