Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is commonly viewed as one of the most complex but popular poker games. It is a game that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites action from every level of players. This is the chief reason why a once irrelevant game, has grown in acceptance so quickly.

Omaha/8 starts exactly like a normal game of Omaha. 4 cards are handed out to every player. A round of betting follows where gamblers can wager, check, or drop out. 3 cards are given out, this is referred to as the flop. A further round of betting ensues. After all the gamblers have either called or dropped out, a further card is revealed on the turn. Another sequence of betting happens and then the river card is revealed. The players will have to make the best high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is where a number of entrants get confused. Unlike Holdem, where the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha Hi-Lo the player must use precisely three cards from the board, and precisely two cards from their hand. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot could be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It is the best hand out of every player’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It’s the identical approach in almost every poker game.

A lower hand is more complicated, but really free’s up the action. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that can be made, with the worst being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Because straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest possible hand. The lower hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and smaller. The lower hand wins half of the pot, as does the high hand. When there’s no lower hand presented, the high hand takes the whole pot.

It may seem complicated at the start, following a couple of hands you will be able to pick up on the fundamental nuances of the game simply enough. Since you have individuals betting for the low and betting for the high, and seeing as such a large number of cards are in play, Omaha 8 or better provides an amazing assortment of betting choices and owing to the fact that you have numerous individuals shooting for the high, and many battling for the low hand. If you love a game with a lot of outs and actions, it’s worth your time to compete in Omaha 8 or better.
