Gus Hansen enjoyed a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only player to make it to the closing game in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may remember one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. Gus secured a huge pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the best bettors anywhere in the world. While gambling on internet poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. He regularly competes in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen generally buys-in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very weak. He waits patiently for a good hand and then pushes all-in. I know Hansen is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is bankrupt, he has little or no reason to play at the table with the min buy in.
Buying in for the min takes a majority of the expertise out of big stack poker. Gus is assumed to be 1 of the best players in the world but he can’t buy in for the total dollar value. I believe television can alter our view of the real world sometimes. The greatest players in the world might just be players you have never heard about. Gus can be seen playing web poker on Full Tilt. He usually competes in big stakes omaha hold’em and texas holdem. Gus has shown himself as a competition player. Can he use his abilities in cash rounds?
