Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only one to make it to the final game in three of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker recorded history against Daniel Negreanu. Gus raked in a massive pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has made many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the best gamblers anywhere in the world. While betting on internet poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. Gus regularly competes in the 200/400 No Limit max buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen more often than not buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and gambles very poorly. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then pushes all in. I believe Gus is an outstanding poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless he is penniless, he has no reason to settle at the game with the min buy-in.
Buying in for the minimum takes almost all of the skill out of big stack poker. Hansen is accepted to be 1 of the greatest poker players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full amount. I believe television can skew our perception of the real world sometimes. The best players anywhere in the world could be players you have will not have heard of. Gus can be seen wagering on internet poker on Full Tilt. He commonly plays in high stakes omaha eight-or-better and texas hold’em. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he use his abilities in money games?
