Gus Hansen experienced an amazing year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only participant to make it to the closing poker table in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might remember one of the largest pots in big stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen raked in a large pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the greatest gamblers around the world. While competing in online poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. Gus regularly plays in the 200/400 No Limit max buy in of $40, 000. Gus usually buys-in for the min of $16, 000 and gambles very poorly. He waits for a good hand and then goes all-in. I know Gus is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is flat broke, he has no reason to sit at the table with the minimum buy-in.

Playing for the minimum takes a majority of the ability out of big stack poker. Hansen is accepted to be 1 of the greatest poker players in the world but he can’t buy in for the full amount. I think television can skew our perception of the real world every now and then. The greatest players anywhere in the world might be guys you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be found playing online poker on Full Tilt. He usually competes in high stakes omaha eight-or-better and texas holdem. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a competition player. Can he use his talents in money games?
