Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker competitor in the world by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to discover everything he possibly could about the game. Phil would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the adverse comments from other people destroy his ambition of becoming one of the best poker players in the world.

Phil started playing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a teaching experience and winning wasn’t a common thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed many of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an immeasurable passion for poker. He says that he is picking up skills every single day and is very abashed about his achievements. Phil admits to making errors every single session of poker and always aspires to improve.

Although Ivey has won some large tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
