Gus Hansen experienced a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only player to achieve last poker table in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may remember one of the largest pots in big stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen won a big pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the best gamblers around the world. While wagering on internet poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. Gus regularly participates in the 200/400 NL maximum buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen more often than not buys-in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very weak. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then goes all-in. I believe Hansen is an amazing poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is penniless, he has no reason to sit at the game with the min buy in.

Buying in for the minimum takes most of the ability out of deep stack poker. Gus is presumed to be one of the best poker players in the world but he can’t buy in for the full dollar value. I think television can skew our perception of the real world sometimes. The greatest players in the world may be players you have will not have heard about. Gus can be found competing in internet poker on Full Tilt. He commonly participates in high stakes omaha eight-or-better and hold’em. Gus has shown himself as a competition player. Can he use his abilities in cash rounds?
