Gus Hansen experienced a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only player to make it to the closing poker table in three of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may recall one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker recorded history against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen secured a massive pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Gus has earned many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the greatest bettors around the world. While wagering on internet poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. Gus regularly participates in the 200/400 NL max buy in of $40, 000. Hansen more often than not buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and gambles very weak. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then goes all-in. I accept that Gus is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless he is bankrupt, he has little or no reason to play at the game with the minimum buy-in.
Playing for the minimum takes most of the skill out of big stack poker. Gus is assumed to be 1 of the greatest players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy in for the full amt.. I believe television can skew our perception of the real world sometimes. The best poker players anywhere in the world may be players you have won’t have heard about. Gus can be found playing internet poker on Full Tilt. He commonly plays in high stakes omaha hold’em and texas holdem. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a competition player. Can he back up his talents in money games?
