Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is often times viewed as one of the most complex but favored poker variations. It’s a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for action from every level of players. This is the chief reason why a once irrelevant variation, has expanded in acceptance so amazingly.
Omaha 8 or better starts exactly like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are given out to every player. A round of wagering ensues in which gamblers can bet, check, or fold. Three cards are handed out, this is known as the flop. Another sequence of wagering happens. After all the gamblers have either called or folded, another card is flipped on the turn. a further round of betting happens at which point the river card is revealed. The gamblers will have to put together the strongest high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.
This is the point where many entrants can get confused. Unlike Texas Hold ‘Em, where the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi lo the player must use exactly three cards on the board, and precisely two cards from their hand. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Unlike regular Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot could be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."
A high hand is just what it sounds like. It’s the best hand out of everyone’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the very same concept in almost every poker game.
A low hand is more complicated, but really opens up the play. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that might be made, with the worst being A-2-3-4-5. Considering that straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest possible hand. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and lower. The low hand wins half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there’s no low hand available, the higher hand takes the complete pot.
Although it seems complicated at the outset, after a few hands you will be agile enough to pick up on the basic nuances of the game easily enough. Seeing as you have individuals betting for the low and wagering for the high, and seeing as so many cards are being used at once, Omaha hi/low offers an amazing range of betting choices and owing to the fact that you have several individuals shooting for the high, along with a few shooting for the low. If you like a game with a considerable amount of outs and actions, it’s worth your time to compete in Omaha Hi-Lo.
